Theoretical Approach to Therapy

Colleen is a licensed clinical social worker,  who believes that successful therapy comes from a relationship built on mutual trust, respect, and collaboration. Colleen specializes in  helping children diagnosed with ADHD. Her work with children is focused on utilizing play therapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and behavior modifications. Her therapeutic approach is based on establishing a genuine, trusting relationship with her clients.  This enables her clients to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment and leads to greater insight and positive life changes. Colleen also works with adults struggling with anxiety and depression.  Colleen helps clients gain insight into their patterns of thinking and behavior, so they can move forward to reach their goals with greater self-awareness.  

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Colleen received her BA from Rider College (NJ) and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Louisville (KY).  She began her clinical training working with children in outpatient centers and in school settings.   After receiving her Masters, Colleen went to work for a non profit agency providing school based therapy.  In the schools, she worked with students diagnosed with ADHD, behavioral issues and learning disabilities.   As a school based therapist Colleen has a wealth of experience collaborating and working with school staff and parents and understands the importance of these systems in the lives of children and families. 

Alongside of working as a school based therapist, Colleen worked as a consultant  for an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).  She provided brief counseling services to employees working in hospitals and other businesses in Kentucky.  Colleen continues to provide EAP services for many insurance panels.  Colleen also worked as a program facilitator for the  Oldham County Court System providing divorce education services for the Families-In-Transition program.  She has facilitated numerous presentations and workshops on the topic of divorce.  

Colleen is Licensed in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.  She is Board Certified by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work, has a certification in Employee Assistance Program Counseling and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.  She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Florida Social Work Association and the American Clinical Social Work Association.
